Bialowieza Forest at threat from military tensions along the Poland-Belarus border

Poland’s militarisation of the border zone with Belarus is threatening the exceptional biodiversity of Europe’s last primeval forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Human relationships with nature may also be impacted by the fortification of the zone, putting the future stewardship of the forest at risk, say researchers.
